Epinions excellent kit lens

by  pleasespamme,  Jun 2, 2005
Pros: Value, Sharpness, great for lanscape and sky pictures
Cons: Not long enough (not enough zoom), hard to pull in some subjects.
The Bottom Line: I recomment you spend the extra money on this lense. It is a great lense to get to use to get to know the features of your camera with.
Review: My Canon Digital Rebel came with this lense. I would recommend that if you are planing to buy a Canon Digital Rebel or Rebel XT, that you spend the little bit of extra money and get the kit lense. Sharpness: This lense produces results that ...

Epinions Nice little starter lens

by  mhutchinson,  Oct 30, 2007
Pros: Sharp, good color rendering, light weight, compact, very inexpensive
Cons: limited range.
Review: I have seen so much negativity about this lens which is probably the least expensive EF-S lens you can get from Canon. The lens is not a Canon L glass and yet people tend to compare it to the $1500 lenses, but is so much better than anything on a P&S. ...

Epinions Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 USM - Good for BEGINNERS

by  soupcraze,  Dec 16, 2007
Pros: Cheap; Light-Weight; Decent Focal Length Rang
Cons: Poorer Image Quality; Durability?
The Bottom Line: The lens is good for beginners, but not for semi-professionals. If you spend a little more money, you can get a much better lens, by giving up the wide end.
Review: I purchased my first SLR camera fairly recently, a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. It came with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens. I sold the lens after using it for a couple of weeks for a Canon EF 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 USM lens (The GOOD one, not ...

Epinions Inexpensive and light

by  andgott,  Mar 24, 2008
Pros: Cheap, Light.
Cons: Flimsy construction. Low Optical Quality
The Bottom Line: Functional, Thats about all.
Review: This is a VERY inexpensive lens, and it really shows in both the build quality and the optical quality. It is cheaply built- Mostly plastic, with no focus scale. The autofocus is slow, and sounds like a freight train, especially as compared to a ...

Epinions Nice Paperweight - Written For a First Time Owner

by  msiseng,  Jul 9, 2006
Pros: Nothing. Nada. What a joke. Newbies do not waste your time.
Cons: Blur, dark pictures, no lens hood and pure aggravation.
The Bottom Line: Do not purchase an expensive paperweight because this lens has no redeeming value.
Review: I got this lens with the purchase of a Digital Rebel XT. I will not try to "wow" anyone with technical knowledge since I am new to anything other than a point-and-shoot camera. After taking several classes and getting one-on-one instruction from a ...

Epinions Canon's lens of disaster

by  trio-rio,  Aug 28, 2007
Pros: Cheap, light weight & quiet good for macro.
Cons: Cheap results: Soft & less colorful. Extra budget for hood.
The Bottom Line: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens is disaster. Too many disadvantage.
Review: First of all, I'm a learning photographer. Do it for hobby and enjoy taking good pictures. This lens is the kit for Canon 350D Digital Rebel. And I learn a lot of photography technique through it. My pro photographer friends suggested me to master it. ...

Epinions Cheap lens that shows its cheapness

by  rupertthebear,  Aug 18, 2005
Pros: Cheap, lightweight lens that you never need worry about damaging because it's so cheap.
Cons: Poor focus, poor chromatic aberration, no hood
Review: This came with my XT. I replaced it as soon as possible because it's such a horrid lens. Nothing comes out sharp. It's barely acceptable for most purposes but for anything decent - forget it. Many claim to have taken sharp photos with the lens stopped ...
