Formax Shredder, Cross Cut Vs Strip Cut Shredders
When choosing a shredder, the most difficult decisions to make is the decision between a strip cut sthredder and a cross cut shredder. The specifications of these types of shredders often seem so different and it can be hard to sort out the differences. Here is a quick list of things to consider when choosing between these two different types of shredders
Strip-Cut
Formax Strip-cut shredders, also known as straight-cut or spaghetti-cut, slice the paper into long, thin strips. Strip-cut shredders generally handle a higher volume of paper with lower maintenance requirements. Shred size may vary from 1/8 to 1/2 inch. Narrower strips provide better security. Because the strips don't compress well, you'll need a larger basket (or more frequent emptying).
Maintenance
Straight-cut shredders are easier to maintain. Paper doesn't get stuck in the blades too often because there's only one set of blades.
Formax Shredders
Formax FD 8400HS Shredder
Formax Cross-cut shredders provide more security by cutting paper vertically and horizontally into confetti-like pieces. The shredded paper compresses better so the basket holds more cut paper. The trade-off is these shredders may require more maintenance and generally cost more. With patience someone could reconstruct any shredded document. Cross-cut shredders just make the job a lot more tedious
Cross-Cut Maintenance
Cross-cut shredders are harder to maintain and pieces of paper are more likely to get stuck within the blades. Use shredder oil or shredder lubricant sheets to make the blades run smoothly
