Pros Light, fast, color and contrast excellent

Introduction:
As a working professional, the hunt for the perfect capture is a never ending process. As much as I hate reviewing and searching for equipment (I would rather be out shooting), it's a part of life when the quality of your images matter to you. Normally, I shoot with Canon L... Read full review »

if you could have only 1 lens

Pros Solid build, quality images, FAST
Cons wish it were 18-75 same speed
Recommended it? Yes

Tamron XR DI 28-75. I was looking for a general purpose lens to keep on a Canon 20D body most of the time. My requirements were, slight wide angle to short telephoto. Medium weight, nothing too heavy, but not something flimsy either. Fast, had to be a 3.5 or better and ideally had to be the same... Read full review »

Good Value for the Money

byfoto-pete May 3, 2007

Pros Good lens for the money.
Cons Images dull, a little soft, lifeless. Service a little slow.
Recommended it? Yes

Is it as sharp as the Nikon 28-70 - no way. As Clear and Brilliant as the Nikon 28-70 No Way. But, at 1/4 the cost, it is a good starter lens.

It seemed to hold it's 2.8 maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range. It is built a bit cheap (but better than most Nikon zooms except the... Read full review »

Very sharp, light, bargain price.

byzero74 Apr 11, 2005

Pros Sharp, f2.8, light, 1/3 the price of canon L glass
Cons Auto focus may search in low light, could be a little bit wider.
Recommended it? Yes

A lot of people compare this lens to the more expensive canon 24-70 f2.8 L which cost 3 times as much as this lens. Having never used L glass I can make no such comparison. I can say my experience with this lens has been excellent. This lens produces very sharp results and is a super good bargain... Read full review »

Excellent For The Price

bybilldoss Jan 19, 2008

Pros The performance is worth way more than the price.
Cons It doesn't use a standard alkaline battery, rather it uses a coin type cell.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this rangefinder to replace a lost Bushnell model. The 440 is awesome. On closer ranges it will actually split and indicate the 1/2 yard. I mainly use it for hunting. I tried some experiments ranging known targets from my stand. I checked in heat, cold, rain and some pretty serious snow... Read full review »

An average lens

bytruelyyours Feb 17, 2006

Pros Worth while for the cost.
Cons Zoom range is short on both ends.
Recommended it? Yes

An average lens for the cost.

The image blurs at f2.8 75mm.

Gets you very good quality image when there is enough light.

I found there are times that I wish the zoom range is wider on either ends. Read full review »

Sharp! Great Lens...but hard to find a good copy.

byspammusubi Aug 16, 2006

Pros "L" Quality when you get a good copy. Very sharp.
Cons Known quality issues. Hard to find in local stores to test copies.
Recommended it? Yes

I debated between getting this lens versus the more expensive Canon "L" lens equivalent, the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens.

I eventually bought the Tamron since all the reviews raved about it. But be warned, all the forums cautioned about bad copies of this lens floating around. Tamron is not... Read full review »

UMM okay the other reviewer has no idea what this lens is made for.

byhitmenow Oct 3, 2008
1 Helpfuls 2 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros The biggest bang for the buck for anyone novice or pro.
Cons Hard to find this lens
Recommended it? Yes

This is a 35MM or full frame lens optimized for digital photography. THIS IS NOT AN APS-C FORMAT LENS.

Therefore it is only giving a 44mm to 108MM zoom range on a DSLR APS-c format camera body with the smaller sensors.

So of course it will not appear wide enough at its widest... Read full review »

Best buy

Pros Constant 2.8. Light. Fast focus. Perfect everyday lens.
Cons Not weather sealed. Could have faster focus. That's about it.
Recommended it? Yes

This lens is the workhorse lens in my bag. I find it light but solid and it performs flawlessly. Good contrast and sharpness...constant 2.8. It's a usable 2.8 too. I was reluctant to buy a non Canon at first...this was my first non OEM lens purchase. My experience was so good, I've bought another... Read full review »
