Pros Superb optical quality, lightening fast autofocus, low price.
Cons Plastic feel to construction.
Recommended it? Yes

In my increasing world of photography, I need lenses to do specific jobs, a 28-200mm lens for general use, a wide-angle zoom for interiors, a 50mm standard lens for backup and a macro lens for close-up photography.
I need them to be cheap as only the 28-200mm lens is in general use and it... Read full review »

Pros Great image quality, price
Cons none
Recommended it? Yes

The Tamron 90mm/2.8 Macro Lens is an excellent lens for both macro photography as well as an all-purpose lens. Costing under $400 this lens rivals the equivalent lenses made by Canon and Nikon while costing less than half the price. If you have ever taken close-up pictures of your baby or of... Cons Using flash with matrix metering on D100 quirky Doesn't have a heavy metal feel
Recommended it? Yes

This Tamron is a great lens. I use it for both portrait work and macro work. I'm using it on a Nikon D100. I have also used it on a Nikon film body.

As I was looking for a portrait lens that wouldn't break the bank I decided between this Tamron and the Nikon 85mm 1.8 AF-D lens. I had read... Read full review »

Tamron beats Nikon

Pros Optical Quality tops Nikon, great bokeh
Cons I don't like the lens hood.
Recommended it? Yes

Yes, it does happen. Sometime a 3rd party lens maker gets it right...and charges us less. A LOT Less!
Like many folks, I read the near legendary level ratings on this lens and finally took the leap as I would be able to compare it side by side with a Nikon 105 2.8. I bought the lens... Read full review »

Can't get any closer

Pros VERY close focus
Cons auto focus a bit touchy
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this lens primarily for use as a portrait lens. I liked its shallow depth of field. While I have found it to be pretty good in the portrait category; I found its greatest virtue to be its close up abilities. I am able to focus about an and inch from my subject.

The lens is easy to... Read full review »

This is NOT an F2.8 lens

Pros Supersharp, super-lens as photozone.de tests say.
Cons All the above review comments re f2.8-f5.6 (unless I missed something)..
Recommended it? No

A few words of caution to all would be buyers of this 'fast', super, reasonably priced lens.....

When mounted on the Nikon (F/N80)body, whether in Manual/Aperture or whatever priority, as soon as the distance scale goes BELOW FIFTEEN feet, whether on autofocus or manual focus, the... Read full review »

Pros 1.Good sharpness.
2.Good flash reproduction.
3.Good pricing
Cons 1.No F2.8 aperture control trhough the focus range.
2. No VR or IS in the lens.

I picked up a Tamron 90mm Macro F 2.8 a week back and I was truly dissappointed to see the aperture change to F5.6 at close range.
There is no manual way of controlling the aperture to keep it steady at F 2.8 as it is made to seem in th specs.
Since there is no image stabilisation or... Read full review »
